Steve Schellenberg began his musical life as a pianist, with his mother as his first teacher. He subsequently took up the oboe and earned degrees from Brandon University, Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) and the University of Oregon. His principal teachers were Douglas Bairstow of the Winnipeg Symphony, Robert Morgan of the Chicago Lyric Opera, Ray Still of the Chicago Symphony, and J. Robert Moore at the University of Oregon. He counts among his major musical influences many wonderful summers listening to Alan Vogel and Ingo Goritzki at the Oregon Bach Festival. He has also participated in master classes with both Goritzki and Robert Bloom. Dr. Schellenberg currently plays oboe and English horn with the Mississippi Valley Orchestra and with any one else who asks him. In his professional life, he is Assistant Director for Research, Evaluation and Assessment with the Saint Paul Public Schools. He is also approved as a dog judge for the American Kennel Club.
