Eric Jorve, cellist, does not remember a time in his life when he didn't play the cello. Some people might consider this a sign of advancing age, which would be at least partly correct. However, it is also true that he began his cello studies in the third grade. Sadly, this is approximately when the Beach Boys were in their prime - few people can remember back this far, Eric included. Eric's passion for music continues to this day, and he studies weekly with the distinguished cellist Josh Koestenbaum of the SPCO.
Eric is the cellist and manager of the Midgard Ensemble, a chamber music group comprised of four musicians from the U.S. and England. The Midgarders have made five appearances in the Twin Cities on the acclaimed Music At First Series in addition to summer concerts in Merrie Olde Englande.
He studied orchestral conducting at the International Music Workshops in Stavanger, Norway, and performed in master classes for Rafael Wallfisch at Dartington International Summer Academy in southern England. In recent years, Eric produced and directed the "Americana" multi-media musico-dramas featuring American composers Aaron Copland and Charles Ives. He is a program notes author, and has performed with various community orchestras in the greater Twin Cities area.
By day, he is a technology consultant for Teradata Corporation. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in computer science and mathematics. His principal hobby is a whole-house remodeling project (which his wife fervently wishes will be complete soon - or else).
